Thomas Delauer is a successful businessman, writer, and diet/nutrition/weight loss expert. He’s also incredibly toned and has been featured on the front page of magazines like Muscle & Performance. But is Thomas Delauer on steroids?
If you’ve followed Thomas’s story, you probably know that he started out as an overweight professional in the health industry who weighed 280lbs. But in a rather short amount of time, he overcame his weight-loss challenges and dropped to 185lbs. Not long after, he was featured on the covers of some prominent body-building and health magazines. He also started writing for several large fitness publications as an expert in diet, nutrition, and mindset.
Oh, and let’s not forget one crucial detail. Thomas Delauer is ripped. He may not be ‘The Rock’ size ripped. But he’s in impeccable shape. He has a lean, strong body, with plenty of definition and muscle to appreciate.
In this post, you’re going to see all of our in-depth research and learn, once and for all, the truth.
Is Thomas Delauer on steroids?
Let’s dive in.
Thomas Delauer: Background
Anyone who watches Thomas Delauer’s YouTube channel doubtlessly knows that he is a celebrity trainer and health author. You also know that he talks a lot about keto, fasting, and other health advice.
But what’s his real background?
Thomas Delauer began his journey as a regular guy. He was an athlete in high school. He played rugby, ran cross-country, and was pretty in-shape as far as health standards go.
But once he graduated, ‘life’ kind of took over.
He ended up switching gears, and turned his priorities toward making money for his family (he’s been dating his wife since the two of them were in high school together) and being a provider.
He entered the healthcare field and became a healthcare recruiter. He also went into the lab services industry.
He ended up working with some very top-level concierge doctors. These were doctors who serviced affluent patients who were wealthy enough to pay for their healthcare needs on a cash-pay basis.
In other words, these doctors provided care to very wealthy patients. And so, these physicians were really at the top of their game because if they stopped performing at peak effectiveness and failed to provide adequate care, their patients would just find different doctors.
Working with these doctors was actually the start of Thomas Delauer’s transformation because the knowledge he obtained while working side-by-side with such professionals was the knowledge that he needed to transform his own life.
And so, he began his weight-loss, body-building, and fitness journey.
He started off by talking about getting rid of inflammation. In fact, in the earliest days of his fitness influencer career, he was known as the ‘inflammation guy.’ But he also went on to talk about keto and even started talking about diets like the Paleo diet.
My Personal Opinion About Thomas Delauer’s Story
Keep in mind that I am not necessarily a fitness/body-building expert. My whole goal with this post is to learn the truth about Thomas Delauer, to see if he’s the kind of guy men should trust with fitness advice. Obviously, our position here at Male Ambition is that we never condone the use of steroids, in any way, shape, or form.
We believe in helping men to become better men. We want men to have healthy, strong, great-looking bodies but we want them to accomplish it using healthy, natural methods that will empower them to live happy, healthy, fulfilling lives in the long-term.
So with this being the goal, let’s break down my initial opinion of Thomas Delauer’s channel and backstory.
I actually believe that Thomas Delauer is a pretty cool guy. One of the biggest complaints about him is that he uses pseudoscience and exaggerates claims to suit his narrative.
In other words… some people say that most of what he talks about could be debunked, and many of his ‘powerful tips’ aren’t actually as powerful or as effective as he makes them out to be.
But at the end of the day, I think that Thomas Delauer is a fitness expert who ALSO hypes up some of his findings to make them more exciting for his audience.
This doesn’t necessarily make him a ‘fake YouTuber.’ It makes him part fitness trainer, part entertainer.
Do I think that he is leading men down a bad road?
No, I don’t. I actually think that most men would benefit from listening to what he says. He has obviously optimized his lifestyle for top-tier performance, and he looks awesome.
But this still doesn’t answer our main question.
Is Thomas Deelauer on steroids?
Let’s continue on and talk about this.
The Connection Between Strong Athletes and Steroids
Testosterone was first synthesized in Germany, back in 1935. In those days, it was used to treat depression. But not long after, athletes began to catch on to how useful it was for improving performance.
During the 1954 Olympics, Russian weightlifters took testosterone to help them bulk up and lift more weight. And since then, the rest has been history.
Anabolic steroid use really started taking off as a ‘mainstream’ drug during the 1980s. In 1990, Congress passed a law called the Anabolic Steroid Act. This law categorized more than two dozen different steroid drugs as controlled substances.
Athletes take anabolic steroids for a number of reasons. They increase strength and endurance and give the athletes who use them a definite competitive advantage. To put it in the simplest terms, anabolic steroids empower athletes to grow more muscle at an accelerated rate.
But the substances are also not without their downsides.
In addition to being illegal, they’re also banned in many mainstream sporting events. Testing positive even once for a steroid can ruin an athlete’s professional career for life.
In addition to this, there are also health dangers. Mood swings, increased aggression, acne, liver damage, high blood pressure, an enlarged heart, and testicular atrophy are just a few of the potential side effects that come with steroid use.
Thomas Delauer on Steroids: Reality or Myth?
Alright. To break this down, we’re going to look at several different factors.
A lot of YouTubers have broken down Thomas Delauer’s system, channel, and routine in an effort to say that he is or isn’t on steroids.
And one of the most in-depth of these videos was released by Greg Doucette.
In this video, Coach Greg actually points out a few things about Thomas Delauer’s bloodwork, which was shown in this video, published in October of 2020 on Thomas’s YouTube channel.
First off, I want to commend Thomas Delauer for publishing his bloodwork for others to read. This was a really cool look into how healthy he is. And it certainly shows that he knows what he’s doing where diet and exercise are concerned.
Delauer said that he was publishing the results of his bloodwork test so that he could be completely transparent with his audience. And at first glance, it does indeed show us some pretty compelling evidence that Thomas Delauer is all-natural, and not on steroids.
But when you start to break down a few of the points and get a bit more in-depth with it, the truth becomes a bit murkier. This is where Greg Doucette’s video comes in.
Without going into painstaking detail, here are the major bullet points on why Greg Doucette (and a few others) think that Thomas Delauer is on steroids.
His Cholesterol Was Quite Normal
Right off the bat, and at first glance, this would seem to rule out TRT. If he were on steroids at the time of testing, his HDL would tend to be lower. But Greg Doucett explains that it’s possible that Thomas cycled off during testing to show those ‘natural’ cholesterol levels. And so, this doesn’t seem to prove or disprove the Thomas Delauer on steroids myth.
His Liver Enzymes Were Normal
This is another data point used to show that Thomas Delauer isn’t on steroids. But according to Greg Doucette, this doesn’t necessarily prove or disprove that he is on anything. It just shows that for a window of time before his blood test, he probably didn’t take anything.
His Red Blood Cell Count Was Normal
Once again, this goes to show that, at least as of the time that he took the test, he was not above the normal reference range where red blood cells were concerned. This would seem to indicate that he is indeed natural, and not on steroids.
Low Iron
At the bottom of his bloodwork page, however, you will see that his iron levels are low. (Thomas Delauer had a 37, while natural levels for a man should be above 76). But why? He’s supposed to have a super-healthy diet. Why would his iron levels be low? Well, one possible explanation is that he may have lost a lot of blood before his blood test.
Of course, there’s no concrete explanation for this. But Greg Doucette’s theory is that Thomas Delauer may have donated blood out of fear of having too high of a red-blood-cell count. This could explain the lower iron levels. A lot of steroid users do donate blood because this helps to offset their risk of a heart attack or stroke. Again, it isn’t conclusive… but it is an anomaly.
Later on in the video, Thomas Delauer actually addressed this. He said that the low iron levels were a result of overtraining. But this brings us to an important question. If he overtrains, why does he always look spectacular? Why is he always in the best shape possible?
Plus, why would he overtrain before such important bloodwork?
His Testosterone Levels Were Below Average
This factor would seem to drive the nail into the coffin, providing a lot of evidence that he is indeed natural. But according to Greg Doucette, it isn’t so cut and dry. There are many steroids that you can take that still wouldn’t cause your testosterone levels to increase.
Plus, in the video, we didn’t get to see actual numbers for FSH hormone levels or LH hormone levels. When you go on steroids, your FSH and LH levels will drop dramatically and will end up below the normal reference range.
The fact that he didn’t include these numbers makes the report a bit suspicious.
His SHBG Levels Are on the Higher Side
The next thing to point out was actually talked about by a different YouTuber, More Plates More Dates. In this video, he also breaks down Thomas Delauer’s blood panel and goes in-depth on the SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin) levels. Delauer’s SHBG, according to his blood test paperwork, was sitting at 39 on a scale of 10 to 50. Now, this falls within the normal range, though it is a bit on the high side.
Normally, this would reinforce the idea that he’s actually natural, and that he doesn’t use steroids.
Why?
Because a flagship marker of steroid use is a lower SHBG level. But, as More Plates More Dates pointed out in his video, we have to keep in mind that Thomas Delauer is on a keto diet.
And the main thing you see with keto diets is that they tend to give you really bad free testosterone levels. They drive your SHBG upward, and you end up with a lack of bioavailable androgens for your body to use.
In other words… these levels look a little bit suspicious. It almost looks like the keto diet is helping to keep the SHBG in line to counter TRT use. But once again, it isn’t definitive.
P.S. When it comes to steroid use, see what we think about Connor Murphy and Mike Thurston.
Compiling the Evidence
Alright. Now that we’ve looked at some of the details from his blood test, let’s break down the evidence.
Evidence That Thomas Delauer Is Natural:
- He actually showed his bloodwork on his YouTube channel, which would indicate that he has nothing to hide.
- Many of his levels were in the ‘normal’ range.
- His SHBG levels were high, which would normally be evidence that he’s totally natural.
- His testosterone levels were low, not jacked off the charts.
- His diet, exercise, sleep, and altogether fitness routine is dialed in and on-point – which could explain his impressive gains and why he’s so ripped.
Evidence That Thomas Delauer May Be on Steroids
- He is tremendously jacked. He’s so ripped that it’s almost difficult to believe that he’s naturally coming out of the gate.
- He didn’t reveal his LH and FSH levels in the test. This seems very suspicious. It would have been the perfect way to prove, beyond any real doubt, that he’s totally And yet, he didn’t include it.
- A lot of his levels are borderline high. And yet, his iron is low. This looks a lot like someone who went off TRT or steroids for just long enough to get adequate blood levels to show in a test, plus a low iron level that could have come from giving blood to get those levels down even further.
- For the amount of muscle mass he has, his testosterone levels are very close to being too low. One might even go as far as to say that he may need to go on TRT to bring it up. Or, is he already on it, and just went off of it to get his numbers looking more natural for the YouTube video?
Our Verdict: Thomas Delauer on Steroids – Fact or Myth?
At the end of the day, there’s no definitive way to say for sure.
But all things considered, we didn’t see enough evidence to point toward a ‘guilty of steroid use’ verdict.
We would have loved to see his LH and FSH levels to confirm this even further. But at the end of the day, we didn’t feel that we found sufficient evidence to drive home a ‘is Thomas Delauer on Steroids’ affirmative verdict. Other than the fact that he does look like a modern-life Hulk which suggests the very obvious.
